Demand Progress, Revolving Door Project Launch ‘Billionaires Against Khan’ Website

New Website Exposes Billionaire-Led Ploy to Attack Anti-Monopoly FTC Chair

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Demand Progress Education Fund and Revolving Door Project launched a new website, “Billionaires Against Khan” (https://billionairesagainstkhan.com), to expose the anti-consumer, anti-job and anti-worker efforts of some of the wealthiest individuals in the country. “Billionaires Against Khan” demonstrates the absurdity of how these billionaires are using their immense wealth to attack Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan and publicly try to undermine efforts to create a more fair and just economy.

“Lina Khan stands up for the little guy. What about us big guys?” the website asks about the chair of the Federal Trade Commission, before reprinting their calls for her firing so billionaires can continue their “untrammeled profiteering.”

“Billionaires Against Khan” details how the FTC and other government regulators are cracking down on:

  • Monopolistic practices: highlighting lawsuits brought by the FTC and U.S. Justice Department against companies engaged in anti-competitive behavior
  • Exploitative employment practices: spotlighting efforts to make it easier for workers to find better jobs and avoid being locked into unfair contracts
  • Price gouging: calling out efforts to stop companies from extracting extra money from consumers through bogus charges

“The website highlights the absurdity of arguments being made and tactics used by several billionaires against policies that protect consumers and workers,” said Emily Peterson-Cassin, Director of Corporate Power at Demand Progress. “These policies are about creating a level playing field, and ensuring everyone has a fair shot at success. We can’t let grumbling from a few deep-pocketed billionaires undermine this critical work.”

“Billionaires Against Khan” launches on the heels of a new poll from The Tech Oversight Project and Public Policy Polling showing that 88 percent of Democratic voters support Lina Khan’s efforts to take on predatory hospital mergers, hidden junk fees and Big Tech. The poll also found that 89 percent believe lobbyists and big business executives have too much influence over government and 80 percent want the government to do more to take on corporate monopolies.
